My experience in casting has given me great insight into the audition process. Audition acting is unlike any other kind of acting.
In an audition, the actor has to create a memorable character despite:
‣ Only a few pages of dialogue
‣ Only a day or two to go over lines
‣ Telephones ringing
‣ Outside office noises
‣ Producers, directors, and assistants in the room during the audition
‣ Playing the scene with a non-actor sitting behind a desk
‣ Creating a sense of location when often the only "prop" is a chair
‣ Irritable and moody people
Sometimes, casting directors even eat their lunch during the audition!
Under these conditions it’s hard to focus, even with extensive training. My Audition Acting Class will help you build your skills so you can stay focused and ace your auditions!
Classes are run like simulated auditions. We cover every type of audition scenario and all types of roles, from under-5 co-stars to leads. I even invite industry guests for "producer's sessions.”
I also use improvs, theater games, and physicality work to build your “acting muscle” and improve your auditions.
Classes are three hours long, once a week, and include exercises to get our bodies and minds working, plus discussions on the art and business of acting.
In-class exercises include:
‣ Cold Readings for Auditions
Most actors have at least a day to prepare for auditions, but cold readings, in which the actors have only a few minutes to prepare, are still an excellent way to train for auditions. Cold readings help actors focus on what's important, and turn pressure and fear into great audition acting.
‣ Improvisations
On some nights, once the actors are familiar with an audition scene, I have them improvise it “off book,” to help them gain deeper insight into the characters and situations.
If you:

Get callbacks but few bookings
Feel confident and prepared, then get nervous in auditions
